It’s a puzzle. You don’t have to be an empath to gain useful discernment from the puzzle in this Part 1 of our 2-part series.

When Is an Empath “Expert” NOT an Empath Expert?
If that expert is a member of THE Enlightenment Establishment. Sadly, from what I’ve seen, NO member of that Establishment understands what an empath is. They can’t even define correctly what an empath is in the first place. Let alone help a born empath to become a Skilled Empath!
You’ll see that and more as we explore the teachings of empath “expert” Anita Moorjani. Her book does bear the subtitle: “
Before we go into her standing to give power to empaths, let’s acknowledge the usual basics.

1. Rose Rosetree’s Standing
To Evaluate Anita Moorjani’s Work for Empaths
Before you read any article, it’s always wise to check an author’s standing. That way you’re more likely to read ideas that have High Truth Value.
As for this author, yes, I do have the Standing to Write about Empaths, Empath Teachers, and Empath Empowerment®. So I just linked you to an article about that.
Also, let’s have a treat. I’ll link you to these three fun-and-relevant videos:

2. What Is an Empath?
According to the system of Empath Empowerment®:
An empath is born with at least one lifelong EMPATH GIFT for directly experiencing what it is to be another person.
Some empaths have many empath gifts, while others have only one. Either way, they’re empaths for life. The system of Empath Empowerment® includes 15 legitimate empath gifts.
Hey, I just linked you to an article about all 15.
Of course, you can learn far more from my series of books for empaths. Just scroll all the way down to the heading below, Rose Rosetree’s Practical Series of Four Books for Empaths.
Would any of you Wisdom Seekers like to share your list of empath gifts? If you like, ask me to share my personal list. I’ve never done that before.
Unfortunately, empath gifts don’t enter at all into how Anita thinks about empaths. Like other members of THE Enlightenment Establishment, she sees emotional problems. See for yourself.
How Anita Describes Empaths, Promoting Her Book at Amazon.com
Now it’s Anita Moorjani’s turn.
Empaths often feel the emotions of others so deeply that they absorb them—leading to sensory overload, anxiety, and low self-worth.
Their compassion and generosity, while beautiful strengths, can sometimes leave them drained, overwhelmed, or vulnerable to “energy vampires.”
Interesting? Let’s keep going.
3. Introducing Anita Moorjani,
An Empath “Expert” whose Expertise Is Dubious
Horatio nominated her at our Flash Contest, “Help THE Enlightenment Establishment to Change.”
Would you Wisdom Seekers like to learn about Ms. Moorjani’s standing to publish her book for empaths? Respond to any (and all) of the questions below:
-
- Does Anita Moorjani think we readers can’t count? Guess how many relevant credentials she supplies on her book jacket. Let me know if you’d like me to give you the total. Also, you might ask me what I think that total reveals.
- Very likely, you Wisdom Seekers have seen the term, “Guilt by association.” Anita tries hard to claim “Empath Knowledge by association”. What are the juicy details? Respond and ask. I’ll be glad to provide them.
- Are You Curious to Know … What else does Anita’s book cover reveal about her qualifications to advise empaths?
- Which empath teachers does Anita acknowledge?
- In general, why do so many unqualified Empath “Experts” acknowledge NO TEACHERS? Have you noticed, Wisdom Seekers? Why do you think that is? Also, feel free to ask me this: Which unsettling discovery has this Empath Coach made in recent years?
4. Shockingly Predictable. Sadly, True.
In the Introduction, Anita tells readers they are very likely empaths.
Then she defines empath as:
A highly sensitive person who feels and absorbs the thoughts, emotions, and energy of others.
Wisdom Seekers, what strikes you as wrong, even unprofessional, about all this writing from an empath “expert”?
I’ll Start Here. Empaths Are Not HSPs
Readers, remember the subtitle of Anita Moorjani’s how-to book? “The Power of Empaths in an Increasingly Harsh World”. Ostensibly she’s writing for empaths yet, as you’ve just seen, she defines them as HSPs.
According to my published work, as America’s First Empath Coach, active since 2001, hello!
An empath scores 20 on the Energy Spirituality Sensitivity Scale. While a Highly Sensitive Person scores 5.
To learn more, check out my early articles on lifelong sensitivity. They’re based on aura-level research into sensitivity styles.
Altogether, I’ve identified six different Sensitivity Styles; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 20. HSPs score 5. Empaths score 20. Can you tell the difference between 5 and 20? Of course, HSPs are not empaths!
5. What Does Anita Really Teach in Her Book for Empaths?
As a Typical Member of THE Enlightenment Establishment
After searching fruitlessly for what Anita M. actually teaches in her book, neither the Contents Page published at Amazon.com, nor her website, provided much useful information. Fortunately, I found a helpful review of this book at a blog by Claire McApine.
After naming each of the following topics — enthusiastically supplied by Claire — I’ll share my thoughts … as a professional empath coach.
6. !!!!! 5 Awful Teachings !!!!!
Read about them. Critique them. Just don’t DO them, for pity’s sake.
#1. Using a Psychic-Oriented Interpretation of Being an Empath
It’s common for unqualified empath “experts” to favor psychic-type interpretations — mixing that in with the pop psychology. As summarized by Claire McApine, Anita offers perspectives like this:
“Your sensitivity opens up six sensory worlds. It’s connected to the other side. If you block your sensitivity, you block what’s coming in from the other realm. The thing is to be aware that you’re giving your power to the outside world, and to start giving it to your own inner world or to your higher self.”
Rose Rosetree Comments:
Psychics View Everything as Psychic! Including What Helps an Empath
If you’re not into terms like “The Other Side” and “Your Higher Self,” psychic interpretations may not make much sense. Look, I favor chakra databank research, using good quality skills of energetic literacy, to learn what is really going on with an empath’s conciousness. Consequently, as you’ve seen, my model for empaths includes naming specific empath gifts.
Even 1 of the 15 empath gift will qualify a person to learn skills of Empath Empowerment®. These skills are sourced by cocreating with Divine Beings. Unlike psychics, whose work is sourced by astral beings. (Discarnate spirits are indispensable to psychics.)
Now it’s your turn, Wisdom Seekers. How do you react to Anita’s advice that you should stop giving your power to the outer world. (What I call “Objective Reality“!)
Instead, she says, you should “unblock your sensitivity.” That you should, “start giving [power] to your own inner world or to your higher self.”
To me, this reads like a how-to instruction for moving into the Consciousness Lifestyle of Spiritual Addiction, not like helpful advice for any empath. What do you think, Wisdom Seekers?
#2. Supplying “Mantras” to Her Readers
At the start of each chapter, Moorjani provides short mantras.
Rose Rosetree Comments: After 16 years of teaching meditation, I know something about mantras. My ex-guru, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, was responsible for initiating an estimated 6 million people into his system of Transcendental Meditation (TM). Each initiate would receive one mantra. You would never put yours in a book, or casually say it out loud. Spiritually, that would be a desecration.
Why not? Because a mantra is a sacred word that serves as a tool to direct consciousness toward the Divine. The combination of a mantra and how to use it–that is what brings results to a meditator. Also, the way a mantra is imparted matters, too.
Wisdom Seekers, you’re invited to ask me about a rare moment of candor from Maharishi about how a mantra must be imparted, if it is to bring the desired results.
Whatever People Say or Do or Write Is Informative. About Them!
Wisdom seekers, have any of you personally experienced the potential power of a mantra?
If so, how do you like it when Anita presumes to give “mantras” to her readers?
Personally, I have a VERY strong reaction to this:
- Based on using my own TM mantra, in a sacred manner, twice daily for 22 years.
- Based also in having initiated 600 TMers.
- And also based on my “checking meditation” for thousands more meditators, over a period of 16 years.
To this former teacher of TM, Anita’s offhand way of dispensing “mantras” amounts to a desecration. Akin to this, actually:
Imagine if Anita told random readers, “My book gives you a short, easy recipe to bake do-it-yourself Communion wafers. They’re yummy. Bring along these cute little cookies and your party will be fabulous!”
#3. Giving “Meditations” to Her Readers
Nobody who has studied with a serious meditation teacher, such as any of the Great World Gurus toward the end of the Age of Faith–gack!
None of us would trust a “spiritual” teacher who gifts readers with her little “meditations,” like giving kids a lollipop after they get a haircut. What is Anita trying to do, help empaths as their Enlightenment Teacher?
In our Part 2 of this article, I’ll research Anita’s chakra databanks, and consciousness lifestyle. Wisdom Seekers, I have a hunch we won’t find her to be living in Spiritual Enlightenment.
IMO, the purpose of meditation, like the purpose of mantras, is to gain Spiritual Enlightenment. Shame on those who use the sacred concept of “mantra” as though it means a slogan or motto!
How Presumptuous and Disrespectful!
People who know about authentic meditation don’t scatter cute little “meditations” into their book chapters. Plenty of people take meditation seriously.
According to the NIH, at the National Library of Medicine:
- In 2022, meditation was the most prevalent practice in the US adult population, an estimated 60.5 million.
- Followed closely by yoga at 55.7 million.
- With guided imagery or progressive relaxation used 22.22 million.
#4. New Age Advice for Empaths to “Clear” Their Auras
As reported by Reviewer Claire, Anita advocates that her readers:
- Carry black tourmaline with you.
- Smudge your aura with white sage (especially after being in and around groups of people)
- Strengthen your aura by using colour
- Also, learn how to expand and contract your aura. Supposedly, learning to contract it, helps you avoid picking up unwanted energies.
Any responses from you Wisdom Seekers?
Rose Rosetree Comments: These tips have zero relevance to empowering the consciousness of an empath. Meanwhile, what is true about every single 1 these 4 ill-chosen ways to have a better aura? Every one of them could bring negative consequences.
Wisdom Seekers, if you wish, ask me about that. As an Enlightenment Coach, as well as an Empath Coach, I’ll give my professional opinion in detail.
Also, what do you think of “helping” empaths by asking them to lug around black tourmalines?
#5. Anita Spreads Fear-Mongering from Judith Orloff
Anita teaches “Protection From Energy Vampires.” That’s a term coined by Judith Orloff–oddly, a psychiatrist!
Many of us don’t have to hear another thing. As a teacher of empaths, Anita Moorjani has disqualified herself many times over.
Your reaction, please, Wisdom Seekers? Do you know yet that so-called “Energy Vampires” don’t exist?
7. In Conclusion. Rose Rosetree’s Assessment as an Effective Empath Coach
And a Member of TODAY’S Enlightenment Establishment
Pop psychology. That’s what Anita teaches. Pop psychology with psychic development and New Age cliches sprinkled in.
Moreover, Anita Moorjani teaches this in a way that could bring on the consciousness lifestyle of Spiritual Addiction.
Having done a considerable amount of research on empath “experts,” guess what? I’m warning you. Spiritual Addiction is commonly the outcome from following empath “experts” who are members of THE Enlightenment Establishment. Sorry.
What Could an Empath Book Teach That ***ISN’T*** Pop Psych?
Funny, I’ve never seen Anita’s published Skilled Empath Merges. Have you?
Hellooooooooooooo!
A legitimate book for empaths acknowledges that living as an empath is about spiritual consciousness and lifelong sensitivity. For us empaths, spiritual consciousness works differently than with all the other sensitivity styles.
To be effective, then, a how-to for empaths must teach skills that wake up effortless ways to use spiritual consciousness as a Skilled Empath.
Your thoughts, Wisdom Seekers? I welcome responses from:
- Skilled Empaths
- Skeptics who doubt there is any such thing as an empath.
- And any other point of view about being an empath.
