Which Type of Empath Am I? 15 Empath Gifts

If you're an empath, you have at least one empath gift. Which empath gifts do you have? One of Rose Rosetree's empath gifts is living as a Crystal Empath. Here's an aura photo of her, taken when facilitating a Skilled Empath Merge with a ruby.

In this aura photo, Rose Rosetree is doing a Skilled Empath Merge with a ruby.

Blog-Buddies, originally published in 2016, this article needed major edits. I did that today, nearly 10 years after that first publication date. Today, too, I published an updated verson of this article on Medium.

The comments below are worth keeping, worth reading. So they remain here, unchanged.

    Isabella Cates says:

Wonderful! I really like the gifts I have. :)

  2. 2
    Lilian says:

This thread has been going on in the Facebook page as well. How I understand them is getting sharper, as my consciousness is getting more grounded in the human and I’m not getting generally lost in the astral so much.

  3. 3
    Lilian says:

I think I’m: intellectual empath, environmental empath, astral empath. It would be good to go to an empath workshop to compare notes sometime.

  4. 4
    Irene says:

I’m an intellectual empath, an environmental empath, a plant empath and I have emotional oneness. I have suspicions about a few others. For example, I think I may have emotional intuition too, but the volume and confusion of emotional oneness makes it hard for me to tell.

I’m not quite yet ready to wholeheartedly like them as they’ve caused some rather interesting challenges in my life. I’m sure I will appreciate them more in the future when I get to use them for skilled empath merge rather than just keep them turned off. :)

  5. 5
    Irene says:

Lilian, I’m with you. I was sad to miss this year’s empath workshops.

Life gets considerably better when you have skills to go along with your empath talent!

  6. 6
    Lilian says:

Ah, Irene, you’re sort of similar to me. Challenges, yes. It’s like the price of the gift is time wasted on things that non-empaths don’t have a learning curve on.

  7. 7
    David B says:

Rose – I think this is the first time you’ve mentioned 13 and 14 on the blog. They’re in the latest books though. (you know :-) )

I notice some obvious gaps in the pattern. Like Intellectual Intuition vs Oneness. Animals too. Is this because you’ve not met anyone with those gifts yet?

  8. 8
    Lilian says:

I don’t reckon I have the emotional ones (oneness or intuition), but when I experience an astral I definitely get an emotional connection first… (I did that just before I posted with my lovely astral gran just to check, and got a feeling of love, it was her birthday.)

    Who knows.

There’s so much to sort out in life, can’t focus on this all the time…

  9. 9
    David B says:

Hey – and if astral beings have one, surely Divine beings do too? :-)

  10. 10
    David B says:

I can concur with the great value in getting some skills. Especially with the Oneness ones.

I saw something of your talent with #15, Rose. We can call it detail. :-)

  11. 11
    Lilian says:

The way it works with me, is that if I pick up that something is wrong, I will inevitably want to make it better… that’s how I function.

  12. 12

ISABELLA CATES, IRENE, LILIAN, and DAVID B, thanks for your comments, one and all.

About that #7, DAVID B, you’re right. All 15 of the gifts are described in greater detail in “The Empowered Empath — Quick & Easy.” (Which is Empath Empowerment® Book 2.)

Then even more detail is given in “The Empowered Empath: Owning, Embracing and Managing Your Special Empath Gifts.” (Which is Empath Empowerment® Book 3.)

And along with each of these empath coaching books, there is a new layer of knowledge to help skills to get even better, more automatic, and used with greater understanding.

  13. 13
    Lilian says:

So, if I look at patterns in my life, I can see that I’m def not got physical oneness or intuition.

When I try to help people, I focus on trying to make them feel less confused rather than just feeling better, so that’s why I reckon not emotional oneness/intuition.

  14. 14
    Lilian says:

If I have specific experiences that make me all astrally, then I know for sure. I’m sure the workshop would help, as I tend to learn best directly from other people.

  15. 15

So why didn’t I break down into Intuition and Oneness? Excellent question, DAVID B.

For utility. You know, I’m not into theory. What if you’re helping people — whether informally or professionally?

Then it matters a great deal to refine the nuances of experience that are physical, emotional, or spiritual. These are all helping you to learn about your “Discovery Person.”

  16. 16

By contrast, if you’re helping someone intellectually, the ideas are the thing.

With animal empaths, you’re helping them however you can.

And so forth, with those many other empath gifts.

  17. 17

In response to your Comment #9, DAVID B, you bet there is an empath gift that parallels Empath Talent with Astral Beings.

Two gifts: Spiritual Intuition and Spiritual Oneness.

  18. 18

For example, and not to embarrass you, you know that both Isabella Cates and I have both done Skilled Empath Merges for you, and there was much detail about flavors of the Divine in your state of consciousness. Eh?

    (Haha, that great Canadian syllable!)

  19. 19

LILIAN, about your Comment #14, I’m likwise sure you’d learn a great deal from the Empath Empowerment Workshop Level 1 (and also Level 2, for that matter).

It’s useful to know this, however: All my workshops can be offered through Days of Mentoring. That’s you and me, over webcam or Skype or phone or in person, as convenient.

  20. 20

In this last week, I taught Empath Empowerment Level 1 to two different people, both times over webcam.

The learning was just as intense, because in Personal Mentoring we can bring in pieces of information that are very meaningful personally, like having me pull out energetic holograms of things that have happened to my student.

Helping that student to understand better what happened energetically at the time. And what made that other person tick.

  21. 21

So there’s something to be said about both ways of taking my workshop.

Here is info about how simple it is to arrange a Day of Mentoring version of any of my in-person workshops.

  22. 22

BTW, both those recent students clarified that they DID have certain empath gifts that they hadn’t thought they really had.

Including that quote from GLADYS about being an Animal Empath. Remember the unique centipede idea?

Until we did the workshop thing together, GLADYS didn’t think that she had Animal Empath Ability.

  23. 23

Of course, there is something really special about taking Energy Spirituality workshops in person, which is why I cordially invite you and everyone who can come to the upcoming Aura Reading Workshop, Level 1.

Many come from far and wide. And, while they’re here, students will often avail themselves of the chance to do the one kind of session I don’t offer over the phone or Skype: Soul Energy Awakening Hypnosis.

  24. 24

Plus sometimes it’s just fun to get out of the quiet suburbs and go hang out in nearby Washington, D.C.

Last weekend an out-of-country student was rather surprised and fascinated to encounter America’s annual Rolling Thunder: 900,000 participants and spectators; many, many Harleys.

  25. 25
    Lilian says:

You’re local suburbs are quite lovely. You can walk *in shade* *in woodland* from your house to the Potomac River!

Very Lilian friendly. Rivers and woodlands are really all I need on a holiday.

  26. 26
    Lilian says:

Yes, mentoring days etc are in my plans. I think that an intense one-to-one session is a good idea at first, then swapping notes with other students at a later time would be good to round that off.

  27. 27
    Lilian says:

Oh yes, I loved the centipede comment! How amazing! That explains an animal empath talent so concisely and perfectly.

  28. 28

Speaking of types of empath, have you ever heard the term “Autism Empath”?

This is impossible. Those with Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome are, categorically, not empaths.

The link just provided would be very helpful to share with anyone you know who has been confused in this way.

  29. 29

Although you wouldn’t know it from the Internet where non-truths and half-truths spread like wildfire. I just Googled “Autism empath” and got 64,800 hits.

Incidentally, the top hit was from an empath coach with, well, a very different point of view from mine and the psychological expert cited in my previously-mentioned article.

  30. 30
    Isabella Cates says:

Rose, I know that when you are an Animal Empath, you might only have the gift for certain animals or certain types of critters, and not others. Right?

Is this possible for a Plant Empath? E.g. Trees, but not flowers?

  31. 31

    Yes indeed, ISABELLA CATES.

As you know, I have written books that contain a LOT more information about each empath gift. Along with systematic instruction to help the empath gain the skills of Empath Empowerment®!

For each of those books, I have worked long and hard so that the reader can find the fastest, easiest way into gaining those skills.

This blog post (and blog) are not to be seen as replacements for any of the books in my series for empaths. Instead this is a brief introductory post so that we can elevate the public conversation about “Which kind of empath am I?”

  32. 32
    Lilian says:

Thanks for the comment Isabella. It is good to note that empath types must indicate a spectrum of empath talent.

  33. 33
    David B says:

Great question, Isabella. And agreed, Rose. But we might not realize we have a gift if we’d not run into our flavour of it yet. (consciously) Or may assume that everyone with a similar gift will experience it the same way.

So it is a key point.

  34. 34
    Kira says:

I’ve had a similar question to Isabella’s–is it possible to be an environmental empath who only has the talent for relating to a specific environment?

Because I relate to trees, and I haven’t figured out whether I’m a plant empath or an environmental empath (or both). I enjoy being in different kinds of environments, but environments with lots of trees feel special at a deep level. But then, so do certain individual trees; some of them just call to me.

(Heck, when my husband and I first visited the property we eventually bought to get our house built on, I felt instantly like I belonged here; I remember trying not to be too attached in case we didn’t get it.)

  35. 35
    Kira says:

I wasn’t planning to actually *ask* the question, but it was so similar to Isabella’s that I just wanted to mention I’d been thinking along the same lines.

I feel sure I’ll eventually figure it out. (Because if I don’t, there’s always a Day of Mentoring.)

  36. 36
    Kira says:

Oh, and as far as being a plant empath, I’m definitely not talented with houseplants.

I have an amaryllis and it’s been alive for several years, and it’s the only one I’ve ever managed to keep alive. And that’s only because my husband helps. I’ve killed a cactus; as one comedian put it, I’m “less nurturing than a desert.”

  37. 37
    Kira says:

I definitely have intellectual empath gift and emotional oneness. Also empath talent with astral beings. The ones I’m unsure about are mechanical empath, crystal empath, animal empath, and the above-mentioned plant and/or environmental empath with trees.

I have, again along the lines of Isabella’s question, found myself wondering if the connections I feel to machines and crystals are to astral beings within them via the astral empath talent rather than the specific mechanical and crystal empath talents.

  38. 38

Yes, KIRA, regarding your Comment #35, I would definitely recommend a Day of Mentoring.

  39. 39

Just to share an exchange I have had with “Gladys,” in case any of you can relate.

She asked me, “What do you do if you are REALLY not sure if you have any empathic gifts?”

The short answer is: “You’re not an empath.”

However, Energy Spirituality offers you plenty of other ways to move forward in your personal development, with many skills of energy healing. Plus Enlightenment Teaching. Empath coaching is not all I offer.

  40. 40

Some of you, though, are just giving yourself a hard time.

Or you don’t have confidence. About plenty of things, including allowing yourself to call yourself any kind of empath.

  41. 41

If this little blog post, or others like it, is not enough to give you clarity, you might wish to follow my advice in this article and get yourself a copy of “Become The Most Important Person in the Room.”

No blog post is a good substitute for a dedicated book that I worked on for years to give you the easiest possible start of empath skills.

  42. 42

Another option you have is to book a session with me for Energy Spirituality HEALING.

In that session, bring an intention like “More self-confidence” or “A stronger sense of self.”

I’ll help you, of course. And it will be quality assistance, one-on-one, using my skills of Energy Spirituality. Would it be reasonable to expect this quality of personal attention from a blog? Haha. You know the answer to that one!

Your session can include a bit of conversation about whether or not you’re an empath. Just mention it early on, once we’re in session.

  43. 43
    Lilian says:

    Michael: What Rose says.

Also, you can just go ahead and learn skills before you’re sure what exactly your abilities are. I’m pretty idiosyncratic with understanding these things myself…

  44. 44
    Lilian says:

Buy “The Empowered Empath” and do the Coming Home technique every day for a bit and also the First Aid and I like Techniques.

I find that they help me learn a bit more about myself.

  45. 45
    Cameron says:

I am an emotional empath with an intuitive sense. Is this rare? My emotional sensory is at higher level then the intuitive sense. I always knew i was senstive but not as an empath i never knew until yesterday i already had the experience but never knew the official name. I want to know to get my gifts stronger so i can help people better.

  46. 46
    Rose Rosetree says:

Congratulations, CAMERON, on finding out you’re an empath.

Also, congratulations on finding the website where one of the main specialties is Empath Empowerment®: A uniquely effective system for helping you, and the only trademarked system in America to help empaths.

  47. 47
    Rose Rosetree says:

Your next step might be to reread the main article here, because you won’t find “Emotional Empath with an Intuitive Sense.”

In your sweet enthusiasm, you might not have paused to read the entire article.

  48. 48
    Rose Rosetree says:

Rereading, you will find other terms and ideas that might fit you more precisely.

Then, might I suggest you look here for your next steps to become skilled as an empath. Which can be a gentle progression of self-discovery. And life-changing.

As you’ll learn, this involves a lot more than getting precise names for your empath gifts.

  49. 49
    Cameron says:

My abilities are like i can sense their emotions and i feel it as well. That one is emotional oneness. But the other I’m not sure at all. This one i can sense the person’s intenions and if they are bad or good by the feeling i get from them. If you can help identify which sense or ability it is I’d be happy to know so i can get a better handle on myself. I know I’m a unskilled empath but i do have the willpower to block out certain people or energies. So i don’t get influenced by them

  50. 50
    Cameron says:

Also others can’t sense my energy (non empaths) so I’m hardly approached not often anyway. It could be just where i live. Cause i live near Boston MA. The people are so focused on themselves or on their phones. But i always get side glances and some eye contact but that’s it. Idk if it’s because I’m a unskilled empath? Hmm i wonder.

  51. 51
    Rose Rosetree says:

CAMERON, it’s neither helpful nor appropriate for you to continue describing yourself here, regaling us with your experiences as an unskilled empath.

If you’re content with the sort of thing you mentioned, fine. You don’t need what I can offer.

Otherwise, it’s time to stop describing and to start learning.

  52. 52
    Rose Rosetree says:

Oh yes, CAMERON, you might also wish to read today’s new blog post.

    Which you inspired.

    Wishing you well.

  53. 53
    Kendall says:

I don’t know what type of empath I am. As I was reading this article I relived each moment when I discovered that I had that talent. I preceive everything as pain. Always have. It has stopped me from helping everything. But this is my year. 2018 is the month and day of my birthday.(don’t count the 0) I can’t explain what’s happening to me, but my sprit/element guide says it time. Every empath can obtain all talents. I would love to explain but instead I’ll leave you with this truth. Energy moves faster than light.

  54. 54
    Brittany Parker says:

Is it normal to have most of tge empathic abilities you mentioned here? There are only 2-3 I don’t have.

  55. 55

KENDALL, I wish you well with enjoying your point of view, expressed in Comment 53. Then leaving us, hinting at your wondrous truths.

Personally, that’s not how I like to communicate with people. Certainly, this empath coach couldn’t disagree more strongly with ideas like “Every empath can obtain all talents.”

  56. 56

BRITTANY PARKER, please don’t worry about normal. Or comparing yourself to others. Concern yourself with what is true about you.

Might I recommend? I spent a lot of time and care putting together a five-lesson Free Intro to my series of Empath Empowerment® workshops — on demand and meant to be helpful. Here’s a link. Maybe check it out.

And do consider, one of the side effects of studying further with me is that you’re way likely to gain more trust of yourself and what’s true for you.

  57. 57
    Anton says:

Rose Rosetree you are a wonderful person but i want to point out that i have Asperger and i am an animal empath. I work with animals and they always come to me. If i go somewhere they follow me all the times. I feel their emotions and i love them so much. One time i killed an ant that was hurt and cried afterwards. Not everyone with asperger is the same. I’ve encounted people with asperger who seems to not understand other people’s feelings. But i understand people’s feelings and i’ve also been bullied so i know what its like. When i was little “normal” children had no empathy towards me and i was always left outside. I’m a lightworker and i sense god and angels. Ive also seen UFOs. I have a friend with asperger who is extremely empathic too. I can’t believe i had to make a comment just to let you know this. Wish you luck and have a nice day :)

  58. 58

ANTON, you sound like a wonderful person, too. Please understand that being empathic or having empathy is not the same thing as being an EMPATH.

None of the things you’re rightly proud of has anything to do with being an empath, for heaven’s sake.

  59. 59

Many comments come to me from people like you, people who are special in ways apart from being an empath. Complaining, contradicting, or outright attacking my blog. When you haven’t understood what I’ve written about being an empath. And therefore you assume that I’ve written that you can’t have empathy etc. if you’re not an empath. Not true!

I published your comment because it was sweeter than most. If you can understand what I’ve written in this post and others, you’ll stop complaining to me. Either way, please let this thing go.

  60. 60
    Jamie says:

I’m 14 different types of empath. So what does that make me? I want help.

  61. 61

JAMIE, you might wish to slow down and read the entire article. Because resources are named.

And if you take time to read comments at the rest of this blog, you will appreciate that this blog is not a way for people to ask for — and obtain — free services.

  62. 62
    Brian N. says:

Im only now trying to understand what it is i can do. I’ve always reffered to the information i received from others as a “nudge”. It becomes irritating if i dont mention it to the person. As if someone wont shut up about it. Then i have that wonderful easement after i have told them, after i explain im not a mental case. As i mentioned at the start, I want “need” better understanding and control over these thoughts and feelings.

  63. 63

BRIAN N, welcome to Empath Empowerment®. Choose from two ways to move forward.

One resource that can help you is a power-packed, how-to book, “Empath Empowerment in 30 Days.” (Learn more about it here.)

  64. 64

The other is a personal session of Energy Spirituality, by phone or Skype, with me.

When you make the appointment, just let the Appointment Manager know you’d like Empath Coaching. And then I’ll proceed to help you.

  65. 65

As for what you’ve described doing, I’d recommend that you stop immediately. Very likely, a spirit is feeding your subconscious mind “messages.”

After you spread the message, the spirit then signals approval and encourages you to feel good. Long term, this can spiral into a really big problem, so simply stop now. While it’s relatively easy.

  66. 66
    TN says:

Not sure how to say this but I’ve just discovered that there are empaths. This has been my deepest secret in my life. I’ve hidden and never talk about things that I’ve read here for fear that my family and friends would think I’m crazy. My question is how to turn everything off or can you learn to shut it down and not just mute things? My grandmother who died when I was a teenager told me that it runs in families. Is this true?

  67. 67

TN, you’ve come to the right place, having found this blog. Here’s an idea to get you started (including answering your first question).

Search here on “empath.” You’ll find loads of information. This is just one post at this blog, including online workshops (including an ample free intro series of lessons), books, and articles.

  68. 68

As to the idea that being an empath “runs in families,” sounds like your late grandmother wasn’t clear on the difference between an empath and a psychic. Empaths are NOT psychics.

And 1 out of every 20 people was born as an empath. So I’d call us all part of the human family. :-)

  69. 69
    Gabrielle Butland says:

I’m curious, I’m able to not only calm someone, I can send then my energy and I take their hurn and let it flow through me and back out. I can read people really well if I place a hand on them I get flashes like photographs in my mind. Some people can sense my energy others just gravitate towards me. I like to learn even more though, I can also see people that have died. I really want tonlearn haw to clense myself as sometimes I get bad spirits latch onto me and they drain me
    Can you help me?

  70. 70

GABRIELLE BUTLAND, thanks for reaching out.

First of all, stop completely what you’re doing. I’ve encountered many people who — like you — decide you’ll just make something up. And consider it safe. In your own words, astral spirits are latching onto you. That’s terrible. So stop.

  71. 71

To be clear, I don’t mean, “Stop and then cleanse yourself.”

Instead, I mean, “Stop. Because you can decrease the bad consequences of what you’re doing.”

  72. 72

It’s more common than you might think, GABRIELLE, how often people who are energy sensitive develop a tremendous pride. And sometimes, even, recklessness.

You’ve probably spoken for many people here, with your courageous Comment #69.

  73. 73

One more practical point: These well-meant experiments you’ve been doing have nothing to do with being an empath. Nothing to do with a single empath gift. Empaths are not psychics.

You are not alone, GABRIELLE, in confusing psychic work with being an empath. But the two are really totally different.

  74. 74

How could I help you? You could book a session with me at least 3 weeks from today. During that time don’t do any of those things you’ve been doing with energy. And, of course, don’t smoke pot. Or drink alcohol. Or take any recreational drugs.

Then I’ll do what I can to help you. I’d like to help, but you must meet me halfway. You took the first step today!

  75. 75
    Ana says:

I have a question is it normal to feel someone’s past emotions and truma while seeing different layers of them ? Like rings of energy (vibrations?) It’s rare when it happens and it becomes a very close almost intimate situation with the person it happens with it’s like we both know what’s going on but the last time it happened I freaked out cause his room started to become a black room of space am I crazy or what ? I haven’t allowed myself to enter that area of talking or feeling another person soul or emotional cause of it I really need a answer or understanding

  76. 76

ANA, I’m glad you reached out. and that you reached out to an Empath Coach who won’t fill your head with nonsense.

I would recommend you consult a mental health professional at your soonest opportunity.

  77. 77

And something else you can try immediately is to know that experiences where you feel pulled out of reality are YOUR problem.

Time to drop that interpretation you’ve been telling yourself, pardon my saying so, but an interpretation it is! I mean, this part about feeling someone’s past emotions and trauma. Or seeing different layers of them.

  78. 78

Apparently this has happened to your awareness: One minute you’re aware of a normal room, the sort of place where regular human experiences take place. And the next, “his room started to become a black room of space” — to you.

This alone is a reason to meet with a mental health practitioner.

  79. 79

Equally concerning, from the perspective of normal human consciousness, is your easy statement that, “it’s like we both know what’s going on.”

  80. 80

Although I’m glad you turned to me — and I sure hope you follow up on my recommendation — please be clear about this: Nothing you described has anything to do with being an empath. Or having talent as an empath.

    Nothing. Period.

  81. 81

The advantage to you of going to a mental health practitioner is that you can get help to make scary, weird experiences like this stop.

If it seems intimidating to you to seek out a licensed clinical social worker, or other affordable certified psychotherapist, please go to the nearest emergency room and describe what has been happening. They can give you some perspective, and also a referral.

  82. 82

Please follow up on this responsible advice. A person doesn’t have to carry the label of “crazy” to need an expert assist, from time to time, in order to do better.

Since the problem you described is really, really not about being an empath… the smart next step is to meet with a responsible expert at unusual, involuntary mental states. Best wishes, Ana!

  83. 83
  84. 84

Consciousness Engineering is a new topic,. Also it’s now officially a new CATEGORY at this blog.

At the blog post for which you’ve just received a link, I go into exploring which empath gifts would supplement a person’s work as a Consciousness Engineer, versus the other empath gifts that wouldn’t be relevant.

  85. 85

For this unusual, yet fascinating, topic you’re invited to read Comments #18-83.

Again, that’s over at our blogpost that introduces Consciousness Engineering and the work of a Consciousness Engineer.

    Welcome to my blog, RAY.

What a wonderful thing to share with your wife, that both of you are empaths.

  88. 88

There’s a lovely resource for the two of you to discover now, the series of four books about Empath Empowerment®.
