Yeah, yeah, we know it’s called “Show Business.” But to John Wayne, after all these years of mega-celebrity, a more accurate term would be “Fake Business.” While he’s acting, any connection to objective reality feels so empty.
It occurs to me, how deeply disturbing it might be, Marion being this big movie star when:
- Fans mob him.
- Fans gush.
- They talk about him as if he were so important.
- Yet they don’t have the slightest curiosity about who he is inside. Like how he feels. Or him as a person.
Instead, all that happens is he performs by emptying out and going through the motions. Under those circumstances, fame might feel very much like a curse.
And let’s note: No longer does John even have charisma. What he has now is reputation for having charisma.

In Comment 76, Rose, when you mentioned waking up people on goodreads through what you write as a representative of Age of Awakening Enlightenment, I’m learning that we don’t always needs auric modeling to do this.

How does John Wayne score on the Energy Spirituality SENSITIVITY SCALE?
John scored a 1. Like Matt Damon, John Wayne was a Highly-Highly Insensitive Person.
In short, LYDIA, none of these four celebrities was an empath.
Ridiculously easy though it is to assume that other people have the same degree of lifelong, baseline sensitivity as oneself… Might I suggest? Learn from research at this blog about Energy Spirituality SENSITIVITY SCALE. And otherwise, don’t guess.
I never read “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, but I still heard so many of those nuggets, pretty much ad nauseam.
– The one about how important it is to say a person’s name.
– And the one – this may be a twisted version of what Dale Carnegie said, I’m not sure – about how much people love to talk about themselves, just get them talking about themselves.
That one I was always skeptical about, because… sometimes I really do not enjoy talking about myself.
When I first head this advice, and imagined it being used on me, it seemed like a kind of nightmare!
Anyway, the idea of “winning friends” never appealed to me much. Winning?
It seems like Carnegie’s ideas are about treating other people like they’re important, in an effort to make yourself more important.
Manipulation pretty much sums up Dale Carnegie’s method. Unless you work in the sales field, in which case you have every right to call his approach salesmanship.
Incidentally, from what I gathered by reading some of his work, Dale was also a kind-and-friendly man, only that authentic kindness and friendliness can’t really be taught.
ANNA PATRICIA, another person’s underlying intent in talking to you is something that you (on the receiving end) can sense intuitively. Not deeper perception per se, just human knowledge.
Salespeople, and workers in related fields, often respect a degree of manipulation, even insincerity, in others.
Otherwise? You may well feel repulsed, just as you eloquently noted, ANNA PATRICIA, in your Comments #143-144.
Were Dale Carnegie living today, I suspect he would adore the “Document my life” aspect of today’s social media culture. This could be considered an allied form of salesmanship, the self-promotional version of salesmanship:
Branding yourself. Becoming an important commodity to others. Scoring hits. (Yum?)
What’s your alternative, other than salesperson, brand seeker, or “nothing“?
You can choose to value spiritual integrity. You can even live — and thrive — as somebody “Seeking Enlightenment in the Age of Awakening.”

That’s such a good point, Rose, and important, about a person’s intent when talking to you — to sell or other manipulate? Or genuine curiosity about you?

When is a conversation not a conversation? When only one person is having that conversation, and the other person is pushing, squeezing, or using the first person… by means of that apparent conversation.

ANNE, you’re welcome. That Energy Spirituality SENSITIVITY SCALE really fascinates me. I don’t know if it is this way for you too, but for me?
I find that my guesses about a person’s degree of sensitivity are very unreliable.
For instance, I’ll see blonde hair color or soft-looking hair and react as though it’s a Highly Sensitive Person. Only later, research with the Energy Spirituality SENSITIVITY SCALE reveals that the person is a Highly Insensitive Person (Scoring a 2).
Or even a Highly-Highly Insensitive Person (Scoring a 2)!
I think that’s because the coloring and hair of a child can cause me to think of that person as having the passing sensitivity of a young child.
Like how my son (and me, for that matter) had pale blond hair until the age of five.
However, the developing sensitivity of a five-year-old, or ten-year-old, is a passing thing. Not the same as the lifelong sensitivity of an adult, according to the Energy Spirituality SENSITIVITY SCALE.
