Deeper Perception Made Practical

Announcing a Pathways Magazine Column on Energetic Literacy

Pathways is not just a plump, informative magazine in the metro Washington, D.C. region. It is a big deal in mind-body-spirit in America.

Back when I turned pro as a face reader, in 1986, Pathways used to carry a list of “Sister publications” nationwide. These were other free giveaway publications, with local and national news of New Age. All were paid for by advertisers, with articles to educate and inspire readers.

As part of the steady PR-type work I did, back then, I contacted them all, aiming to write articles about face reading. Over the years, I repeated this experiment. And over the years, those other mind-body-spirit publications pretty much faded away. Pathways remained, steady as the Washington Monument.

This particular magazine has been in print continuously since 1979. I don’t think any other magazine in the country can rival that record.

Or that quality. Including other New Age magazines where I have published articles over the years.

What has impressed me most, apart from the longevity?

Editorial content never has been tied to advertising. Which is a big deal, ethically. Also, that policy is a big deal for maintaining the quality of the articles. Maybe that editorial integrity helps to explain why Pathways has survived and thrived.

Years ago, I noticed that nobody was reviewing independently published books. When I mentioned this lack to Lou, he gave me the job of Small Press Book Reviewer, which I did for years. Several years ago, he invited me to do it again, as there was nobody doing the column any more. (The replacement writer I had found had long since resigned, I suppose.)

Reviewing independent books on New Age is a really important job in American publishing, IMHO. So I did the job again, although it was harder to find time this time around. And so I handed the job over to the able Lisa Wechtenheiser.

Through various columnist and independent writers over the years, Lou and the Pathways staff have continued the unbroken publishing cycle of this spunky publication.

Do any of you Blog-Buddies have a Pathways-type magazine in your area? If so, possibly the way it has survived has been by “selling” article content.

With this way of running a magazine, if you advertise big, you can write. Otherwise, editors find your writing irrelevant. (Later, ironically readers and then advertisers find the articles irrelevant. Oops.) I would be curious to hear from you Blog-Buddies what, if any, mind-body-spirit publication is in your region. And are the articles basically “for sale”?

Not for Lou de Sabla, intrepid Pathways Editor. He publishes quality articles in each issue. So getting to write for this magazine is a huge honor.

About my Energetic Literacy articles

Although I gave up on finding time to be a book reviewer, phew! It still nagged at me. I wanted to offer something by way of articles. That’s how I dreamed up this new column.

So far, two articles have been published on the topic of Energetic Literacy. Here is one: You Have So Much More to Your Heart. The other one hasn’t been placed here at “Deeper Perception Made Practical.” Let me know if you would like me to post it, Blog-Buddies.

Meanwhile, I submitted my third of the series and just today Lou gave the official okay.

Writing for this region at large is important to me. Not just to interest future blog-buddies, workshop participants, etc. It is a form of community service, much as I used to teach adult education classes (for what, 15 years?) in this metro D.C. area.

Not everyone is a serious student. Not everyone starts that way, anyhow.

This series of articles aims to educate readers about the very, very practical uses of energetic literacy. I also care very much about clarifying for people that psychic development, the famous alternative, is not the ONLY alternative for someone who would like to read auras.

First serial rights will go to the quarterly articles. The entire magazine is readable, about one month after publication, at the Pathways website. Once the magazine has gone live online, I plan to do a blog post version. Interactive, yeah!

Not all the best lightworkers live in Sedona

I’d like to share my mood of gratitude by acknowledging you Blog-Buddies who do not live in well known New Age hotspots like Sedona or Santa Fe. Of course, these are important places, communities really, with high levels of interest in mind-body-spirit.

It can feel lonely, living in places like “Michele Bachman Territory,” as recently described in a guest post by SANDRA. That’s one reason I create THIS online community.

An old saying about spiritual life on earth goes, “All is well and wisely put.” Blog-Buddies, I believe that is true for each one of us.
